What believers should compete in

The Almighty said:

Strive to get ahead of each other in good deeds.
[Quran 2: 148]

• Abd ar-Rahman al-Sa’di said to this verse:

“The command to be ahead of one another in doing good deeds is more extensive than the command to simply do righteous deeds. Trying to get ahead of others in good deeds, a person seeks to commit them before others in the most impeccable way and under the best circumstances. And if in worldly life he succeeds in getting ahead of others in performing righteous deeds, then in the Hereafter he will be able to get into the Gardens of Eden and reach the highest steps before others. “
