Position of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy
Our modern scientists have decided that the question of hypnotherapy is related to the use of jinn, and based on this, we should pay attention to the following two points:
- It is unacceptable to resort to the help of jinn in an attempt to find out questions of the hidden, whether by calling them, trying to please them, or any other method. This is shirk, because this process is worship, and Allah taught His servants to worship Him alone and say: “Only you alone we worship, and only You we ask for help” [al-Fatiha 1: 5 – interpretation of the meaning]. It was also narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said to Ibn ‘Abbas: “If (you want) to ask (about something), ask Allah, if (you want) seek help, turn to Allah for it” (Tirmidhi , 2516).
Hypnosis is a type of divination and sorcery. The hypnotist uses the jinn to master a given activity and then speak with his tongue and give the jinn power over certain actions to control the person. The genie is sometimes truthful towards the hypnotist and submits to him in exchange for things with the help of which the hypnotist approaches him.
Thus, the genie obeys the wishes of the hypnotist. Therefore, using hypnosis as a means to find out the whereabouts of stolen goods or a lost thing, or as a means to cure illness, is not acceptable. This is shirk for the reasons stated above. Because hypnosis involves turning to someone other than Allah, and goes beyond the usual means that Allah has created for His creations and allowed them to be used.

Fatua No. 1779 of the Standing Committee states:
“Hypnosis is a form of sorcery that uses jinn to help put them to sleep and then speak the language of the sleeper, using its power to do certain things if the hypnotist speaks the truth.
So they use these things to win over the “customer”. So the hypnotist uses his hypnosis to get closer to the “client” with this information, and the hypnotist asks the genie for help in this matter. Then he learns about deeds, events, with the help of him, and therefore hypnosis is not allowed.
The use of hypnosis to find a stolen item, or for healing, or for anything other than that, is not allowed, moreover, it is shirk (polytheism), because. resorting (search for help) not to Allah in what only He owns, while leaving the usual, permissible reasons!”
