Interrogation of the angel Munkar and Nakir in the grave

One version of the hadith:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“When the deceased is buried (or he said: one of you), two black angels with blue (eyes) come to him, one of which is called Munkar, and the other is Nakir.

▪️ They ask him: “What did you say about this person?” He will say what he said before: “This is the servant of Allah and His messenger. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.”

▪️ they will say to him: “We knew you would answer like this.” Then his tomb will be widened for him seventy cubits in length and breadth, after which it will be illuminated. Then he will be told: “Sleep!” But he will answer: “I will return to my family and inform them.”

▪️ but they will say to him: “Sleep like a bride who will not be awakened by anyone except the most beloved person from her family until Allah raises him from this bed.”

▪️ and if he is a hypocrite, he will say: “I heard what people said and unknowingly said the same as what they said.” They’ll say, “We knew you’d say that.” And the earth will be ordered: “Close up!”.

And the earth will close over him so that his ribs will enter into each other, and he will be punished in it until Allah resurrects him from this bed.
