Allah brings to the understanding of the religion of the one whom he wishes good
Mu’awiya, may Allah be pleased with him, said: “I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say:
“ Allah leads to an understanding of the religion of the one whom He wishes good. Verily, I only distribute, but Allah bestows. (Remember that,) until the command of Allah comes, whoever opposes (members of) this community will never harm them if they follow the commands of Allah.”
Muslim 1037
Ibn Hajar (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “This hadeeth serves as an indication that a person who does not strive to understand religion, in other words, who does not study the foundations of Islam and the practical issues related to them, is deprived of good.
Abu Ya’la cites a weak but correct version of the hadith narrated by Mu’awiya, which reports that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also said: comprehension of religion.
The meaning of these words is correct because of a person who does not know his religion, does not have understanding and does not strive for it, it can be said that no good was desired for him. All this clearly indicates the superiority of scientists over other people and the superiority of knowledge about religion over other kinds of knowledge.
See Fath al-Bari, 1/165.
Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “This indicates that one who has no understanding in religion, that Allah does not wish him well.
Similarly, the one to whom He wishes well – to him He will give understanding in it, if, of course, understanding meant knowledge that requires deeds from oneself. And if only knowledge is meant here, then this does not indicate that if someone has acquired some knowledge in religion, that he desired good in this.
Indeed, understanding at the moment will be a condition for the desire for good (after all, good cannot be desired by one who knows and does not do. – approx. Per.) And for the first this (doing things according to knowledge) will be mandatory. And Allah knows best.”
See “Miftahu dari sa’ada” (1/60)
An-Nawawi, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “This is the merit of knowledge, understanding in religion and motivation to demand it. Indeed, the reason for all this is that knowledge leads to piety before Allah.
See Sharh Sahih Muslim (7/128)
Sheikh Ibn Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “What is fiqh? Allah Almighty says: ” Untie the knot in my tongue so that they can understand my speech .” (Sura Ta Ha, 27-28)
From this hadeeth it can be understood that if you are from that category of people who are not interested in knowledge, who do not understand from knowledge as it should be understood – are deprived of understanding knowledge, then you should be wary when you hear this hadeeth.
You should be afraid of the very fact that Allah does not give you an understanding of religion, does not give you the desire to demand knowledge, which means that Allah does not want good. If the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said that Allah gives an understanding of religion to whom he wishes good, then the opposite is understood, if Allah does not wish good, then He does not give an understanding of religion, the desire for knowledge.
Therefore, if you feel lazy, if you feel that something is wrong in the pursuit of knowledge, start being afraid, and ask Allah Almighty. Start looking for the reasons why Allah Almighty has deprived you of the desire for knowledge, or the love of it.
And secondly, start getting rid of these reasons, and fall into a sajda with prayers, asking Almighty Allah not to make you from the ignorant, but to make you from the category that thinks about knowledge, lives by knowledge, and spreads this knowledge, and to practices this Sharia knowledge .”
