Do not make the deed futile!
Allah Almighty said: “O you who believe! Do not make your alms in vain with your reproaches and insults ” (al-Baqarah, 2:264).
Shaykh ‘Abdur-Rahman as-Sa’di, may Allah have mercy on him, in the interpretation of this verse, said:
Allah categorically forbade reproaching people for the mercy shown to them. By doing this, a person darkens his beneficence, because after a good deed he commits a sin.
This revelation contains a stern warning addressed to low, stupid and ignorant people who show mercy to people and then insult them. And let people know that Allah Almighty does not need their donations and does not need His slaves at all.
See “Tafsirul-Karimi-Rrahman”.
Imam Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyya, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Almsgiving, good deeds, piety, maintaining family ties are spoiled by dissatisfied reproaches.
See Al-wabil as-sayyib.
It is reported that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
“From three, Allah will not accept either additional or obligatory: from the one who disobeys his parents, from the one who reproaches (others with his good deeds), and from the one who denies the predestination of Allah.”
