The virtue of witnessing ‘la ilaha illa-llah’

It is reported from the words of ‘Abdu-Allah ibn ‘Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

“ The best of what I and the prophets before me said (these are words):

There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, who has no partner. To Him belongs dominion and to Him be praise, and He has dominion over all things .”

La ilaha illa-llahu wahdahu la shara lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahul-hamdu, wa huua ‘ala kulli shay-in qadir

? Tirmizi 3585. Sheikh al-Albani called the hadith good. See “Sahih at-targhib va-t-tarhib” 1536.

Hafiz Ibn ‘Abdul-Barr, enumerating the benefits of this hadeeth, said:

This hadith also indicates that the best remembrance of Allah is the words: “la ilaha illa-llah”!
