Allah has divided the deeds in the same way as he divided the livelihood among the people

One day, this man ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Abdul-‘Aziz al-‘Umari, who was busy with worship all the time, wrote a letter to Imam Malik, in which he instructed him to leave the lessons (teaching) and devote all his time to worship , since he himself was completely immersed in worship, and Imam Malik devoted all his time to teaching.

And this man demanded that he leave these lessons and completely immerse himself in worship, because he believed that teaching takes too much time from worship.

Imam Malik wrote back to him:

“Indeed, Allah divided the deeds just as He divided the livelihood among people.

It may be that Allah revealed to some person in prayer, but did not reveal it in fasting, to another Allah revealed it in charity, but did not reveal it in fasting, to a third person He revealed it in the manifestation of zeal in the path of Allah, but did not reveal it in (voluntary) prayers.

And the dissemination of knowledge and teaching are among the most worthy deeds of piety. And verily, I am pleased with what Allah has revealed to me in this, and I do not think that what I am on is worse than what you are on. I hope we’re both doing well.”
This story was told by Imam al-Dhahabi, may Allah have mercy on him, in his book “Siyar a’lam an-nubala”
