Our hearts are dead about 10 things.
Once Ibrahim bnu Adham walked through the markets of Basra.
Suddenly, people gathered near him and said:
“O Abu Ishaq, truly, Allah Almighty says in His Book:
” Call to Me, and I will answer you. ” answer. “
Ibrahim bnu Adham replied:
“O inhabitants of Basra, your hearts are dead regarding ten things.
First: you knew Allah, but did not give Him what he deserved (did not respect His rights).
Second: you read the Book of Allah, but do not act according to it.
Third: you claim your love for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, but left him as Sunnah.
Fourth, you claim your enmity towards Satan, but you agree with him.
Fifth, you say: “We want (to get) to Paradise.”
Sixth: you say: “We are wary of Hell.”, But made yourself hostages.
Seventh: say death is the truth, but do not prepare for it.
Eighth, you have tackled your brethren’s faults, but discarded your faults.
Ninth, you receive the favors of your Lord, but do not thank Him for them.
Tenth: you bury your dead, but you do not learn from this lesson. “
