Reasons for delusion
Imam Ibn Batta al-‘Uqbari (304-387 AH), may Allah grant him His mercy, said: “Know my brothers, I have pondered the reason why many people left the ranks of Ahlus-Sunna wa al- Jama’a, over the reason that led them to innovation / bid’atu / and baseness,
and which opened the door of disaster in their hearts, and hid the light of truth from their understanding.
And I saw that there are two reasons : The first is [over] investigating and poking around, asking multiple questions about things that are not helpful. These are questions, ignorance of the answers to which will not harm a reasonable person, and understanding them will not benefit the believer in any way.
And the second reason is being close to such people who can plunge you into confusion and temptation / fitna /, and communication with whom spoils hearts ”. See Al-Ibanat al-kubra (1/390).
