The merits of performing the “TARAWEEH”

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said : “The Messenger of Allah ( peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him ) encouraged people to perform additional night prayers during Ramadan, but did not oblige this in a categorical form, but said: “ To the one who stood the nights of the month of Ramadan in prayers with faith and hope for the reward of Allah, his former sins will be forgiven. “
al-Bukhari (37), Muslim (759).

Abdullah ibn’ Ukeim said: “When the month of Ramadan came, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab ( may Allah be pleased with him ) performed the evening prayer with us and addressed us with the following words: this month, but He did not charge you with the obligation to perform night prayers ( Taraweeh) this month. However, whoever of you will be able to perform these night prayers, then verily, they are among the wonderful voluntary deeds reported by Allah Almighty. And who of you cannot stand these night prayers, then let him sleep in his bed. And let each of you beware of saying: “I will fast if such-and-such will fast, and I will stand the night prayers, if such-and-such will stand them.” So may the one of you who is fasting or performing night prayers, do it only for the sake of Allah Almighty! “Hafiz Ibn confirmed the accuracy. See “Musnad al-Farouk” (253).

Hafiz Ibn Rajab said: “Know that in the month of Ramadan two kinds of zeal against his soul gather in the believer: zeal with the daytime to keep the fast, and zeal with the night to stand up to night prayers. And the one who combines these two types of zeal will deserve a reward without counting. “
