3 levels of patience
Shaykh al-Islam (رَحِمَهُ الله) said:
“ Patience in worship is better than patience in forsaking sins. Allah loves worship more than the renunciation of sins. Failure to perform duties in worship is more hateful to Allah than committing sins .
There are 3 levels of patience:
- Patience with the help of Allah
- Patience for the sake of Allah
- And patience with Allah.
1 degree: Asking Allah for help and confidence that only He gives patience, that patience is possible only with the help of Allah , and a person is powerless even in this without Him: “Therefore, be patient, for your patience is only from Allah. Do not mourn for them and do not grieve because they contrive.” (16:127).
2nd degree: Patience for the sake of Allah is when the reason is patience for the sake of what Allah loves, for the sake of drawing closer to Allah, and not for the sake of showing the strength of one’s character, not for the praise of people, etc.
3rd degree: Patience with Allah is when a person shows patience in doing what Allah wants from him. What is prescribed in His laws. He, as it were, binds himself to religion, goes only in its direction and stops where this religion ends.
This is the most difficult kind of patience. Such were the most righteous and honest people (as-siddiqun).”
